War & Home
The war was over
One freezing winter's night
The wind howled so fierce
Even the heavens shake with fright
I walked to my home
And took in a breathe of air
I was home once again
And into the window i stare
There sat my wife
With her face in her arms
The tears rolled down her cheeks
As silence fell over the farm
I knocked a silent knock
And pushed open the door
As I enter my home
My boots glide across the floor
An oil lamp stood
At the top of the stair
Where my children sleep
In the cool night air
I kiss them on the cheek
As if to say good bye
And with one last glance
I look towards the sky
The oil lamp flickered
And my princess rose from her chair
But when she looked up
There was nothing but air
