We
Did these palms cup your face,
As a golden treasure most high,
Or did that dream awaken me,
From a nebulous sky?
Did those eyes pierce my soul,
Awakening promises sweet,
Or did that image prove false,
Ne'er joining to complete,
Did these hearts ever love,
Casting all danger to the wind,
Or was that just a remembering,
Of a guilty, tiresome sin?
Did these bodies ever join,
In thrashing, sweating passion,
Or did I dream that endless dream,
While all hope then madly dashed in?
