Always a Bridesmaid...
The alarm clock went off. Dooms day had come. Slowly, Jacob tried to untangle his body from Ashley's. "Sweetie, sweetie," he whispered gently, "Ashley, it's seven-thirty. We have to start getting ready; the wedding is at nine." Ashley refused to move, "Just a few more minutes, let me hold you a little longer before you go off and get married. Just two minutes, come on, Gorgeous." Jacob could never withstand that delicate, pleading voice. He stopped resisting and held Ashley closer, enjoying the warmth their bodies created. "Ashley, you know I love you, right? You know the only reason I'm marrying Eliza is because my mother wants me too. My family..."
"I understand completely," Ashley interrupted, "Now hush. You're ruining the moment." Jacob stopped apologizing, but couldn't help but feel guilty. Today should have been the happiest day of his life, but it wasn't. In fact, it was the most dreaded day of his life. He was going to marry Eliza Holmes, a nasty, greedy daddy's girl from the upper east side. "You know I would rather marry you, right? You know that..." he said, burying his face in Ashley's hair. "Jacob, you have to do what you have
do. I understand that your mother would never approve of us. I'm not of your ... umm...social status."
They both lay quietly, wishing that time would stop.
Finally, in a broken voice, Ashley managed to speak. "Jacob, get up. Get up or you'll be late."
Hesitantly, Jacob sat up. He looked back at Ashley who was fighting back tears. "Ashley," he said quietly, "you should start getting ready as well. Remember, you are the Bridesmaid."
