As the snow hit her beautiful face Nick wondered how he could have caused so much pain to someone he loved so much. He stood there for a minute admiring every flawless aspect of her soft peach colored skin that shown perfectly against the white snow. Her bright blue eyes stared back at him with no motion whatsoever.
"Julie I don't know what to say." Nick stammered. He twisted his hands in nervousness. He had truly never been so afraid of what he might hear in response to what he had just said. He had gone over what he would say to her a thousand times to himself, but now that he was actually here nothing he said came out the way he planned it to.
"Don't say anything, Nick. I don't want to hear it!" Julie screamed. Nick was amazed at how the woman who once talked to him in soft sweet whispers could now speak to him so angrily.
"Julie I'd give anything to take it all back!" Nick exclaimed.
"You can't take it back! You never can. What's done is done," Julie said, now on the edge of tears. She turned her back to Nick. The last thing she wanted was for Nick to see her cry. As the tears rolled down her face she could feel Nick approaching her. He wrapped his arms carefully around her waist and pressed his cold cheek next to hers. She gasped at his soft touch. As much as she tried, Julie couldn't hide the fact that she still loved Nick and longed for his touch.
"Did you love her?" Julie asked.
Nick sighed, "No. I never did. You know that, I know you do. I was angry with you that night. I wanted to get back at you so I found Amy, but it was a mistake. The biggest mistake of my life."
"Why was it a mistake?" Julie asked.
"Why? Because it made me lose the one person I truly love. The person that I live and breathe for that's why. I only left you and fell into the arms of another because I thought you didn't love me anymore."
Nick looked at Julie. Now tears were falling down his face. The snowflakes on Julie's face glittered in the sunlight making her look almost like an angel.
"Do you mean that?" Julie asked.
"With all my heart. Julie, I love you. I wouldn't be here if I didn't." Nick replied.
"Then prove it." Julie demanded. Nick pulled her as close to him as he could and kissed her. It felt so good to hold her again and as Nick finally broke their kiss, he just held her there for a moment.
"Oh Nick, I love you too." Julie gasped.
"Good thing you do otherwise I wouldn't be able to give you this." Nick pulled a necklace out of his pocket with the shape of a snowflake on it and placed it around Julie's neck.
"It's beautiful." She replied.
"Well it's only until I can get a ring for you. That is of course unless you don't want to get married." Nick replied. Julie stared at him in disbelief. Had he really just said that to her?
" Nick, are saying that you want to …"
"Yes." Nick replied.
"Oh of course I'll marry you!" Julie replied as she fell into Nick's arms and kissed him.
Julie woke up with a start. She looked around and found herself in her dark bedroom with only the light of the moon shining through. She had dreamed about it again. She often dreamed of the last day she saw Nick. The last day she would ever see Nick. The memory still burned brightly in her mind. She remembered letting go of Nick after she had said yes to his proposal and him getting in his car as he told her he loved her and would see her soon. That was the last image she had of him. He never returned from riding in that car. The car had skidded off the rode only five miles away from where he left Julie and hit a tree. Nick was thrown from the car. He died instantly. Ever since that night, Julie dreamed of Nick and the last precious moments she spent with him. She looked down at the sparkling snowflake around her neck and went to the window. She looked out and saw that it was beginning to snow outside. She watched for a while as each snowflake hit the ground then she looked up at the night sky. "I love you, Nick." She said and returned to the warmth of her bed hoping one day she might be with her lover once again.
